Join us, as part of our 2023 Farm Speaker Series, for a walking tour of Empyrean Farm while learning more about disaster preparedness and local wildfire threats. Speaker Bios:

Dr. Sandra M. Matheson

Dr. Sandra M. Matheson is an author, lifelong rancher, retired veterinarian, and educator in regenerative agriculture. She has a grass-fed beef and yak operation in northwest Washington State. Dr. Matheson is also an avid photographer and documentary film producer. Her passion is helping people become more successful in their personal, farm, and business lives.

Through the Roots of Resilience organization, she is one of the founders and co-facilitators of The New Cowgirl Camp. This is an intensive weeklong experience for women interested in learning more about farming/ranching life and business. She also hosts New Rancher Camp at her ranch, a similar experience for both men and women. Dr. Matheson is a Community Emergency Response Team trainer and is involved in Disaster Management in her county.

Amanda Knauf

Amanda Knauf is Whatcom Conservation Districts Wildfire Resilience Specialist. Amanda's talk will go through the changes you can make to your home and vegetation to improve the wildfire safety on your property.

Kirk Troberg

Kirk Troberg is the Kulshan Unit Fire Manage for the Norwest Region of DNR. Kirk will be speaking about local wildfire risk and how the DNR responds to wildfires.
