Equipment Share Program

The Whatcom Conservation District is dedicated to helping Whatcom County farmers to overcome barriers & support local agriculture. As part of this goal we have launched an equipment share program & it currently includes a manure spreader, no-till seed drill, & poultry processing equipment.

Equipment Availability

Rent The Manure Spreader
(March 1 to October 15), $75/4 day use, includes delivery

WCD has a 2.5 cubic yard, ground driven solids spreader available for rent to residents in the District's service area.  To be eligible to use the spreader, you must have a farm plan with the Whatcom Conservation District, or a field assessment and recommended soil test prior to the use of the spreader.

Pick up is Monday and Thursday's at 9am and drop off is approximately 10am, depending on the distance between farms. The use fee of $75/4 day use, includes delivery. 

Before using the manure spreader you are required to fill out the Manure Application Risk Management (ARM) worksheet. Save the completed worksheet to show to your farm planner. Please consult with your farm planner if you receive a medium-high or high risk result after completing the ARM worksheet. The worksheet can be found online at www.whatcomcd.org/msa.

Manure Spreader
Rent Poultry Processing Equipment
(year around), $25/day, $50/weekend

Whatcom Conservation District provides low-cost rental of equipment for small-scale producers to safely process poultry for home consumption, or to slaughter poultry for direct marketing with a WSDA permit. This equipment is for loan to residents in Whatcom County. WCD poultry processing equipment is available for a rental fee of $25/day, $50/weekend with a $50 refundable cleaning deposit. Please bring a separate check for the cleaning deposit made out to WCD.

Poultry Processing Equipment is available for pick up and drop off at the WCD office Monday through Friday.

 

Pick up and drop off can be done between 7:30am to 10am and between 2pm to 4:00pm. You need to pick up or return prior to close.

Review the calendar to find the date you would like to sign up for then fill out this Google Form to request a reservation, and select pick up/return times during our office hours.

Poultry Processing
Processing Equipment Includes:

  • Holding Crates (3)

  • Stainless Steel Kill Cones (4 turkey, 4 chicken)

  • Featherman Scalder and Thermometer

  • Featherman Electric Plucker

  • Stainless Steel Processing Table

  • Manual for the Equipment

You Provide: Electric cords, propane to heat scalder, hoses, knives, chill tanks and scrubbing brushes for clean up. For a video of washing the equipment, please scroll to the bottom of this page.
