Q: How long have you lived here in Whatcom County?
A: I have lived in Whatcom County since 2009, Chris has lived in the area his entire life.  We moved to the property in 2014.

Q: What brought you to this area?
A: I moved to Whatcom after researching various locations in the United States based on climate, education, statistical information, population and natural resources.

Q: What types of animals are you raising? What about crops?
A: We raise pigs, sheep, poultry, and a couple cows.  We are also Certified Naturally Grown and raise a variety of non-gmo vegetables, herbs, and berries.

Q: How did you hear about Whatcom CD?
A: We initially discovered the resources at the Conservation District while working on our farm plan, and learned more about the manure spreader last summer.

Ten Fold Farm

Q: When you first started working with the Conservation District, what was your initial impression of the prescribed farm plan?
A: It was pretty much the same tasks as one would do as a responsible landowner, such as making sure your pastures don't turn to mud in the winter, keeping streams clean, and improving infrastructure.  For us, it was having another set of eyes and ideas to improve land stewardship. The benefit for us was to have a working farm plan that gives a framework for improvements, and a living document we can look on in the future and see how we have improved our property.

Q: What changes have you noticed on your property after installing various Best Management Practices (BMP)?
A: Our animals have much better grass, and we are getting better yields on our hay.

Q: Is there anything else about the process you would like to share?
A:Utilize the manure spreader, it saved an immense amount of labor hours that calculated into a labor savings of over $250.
