The WCD small farm program offers landowners educational opportunities, technical information, and resource materials to help property owners create efficient farms where soil, water, air and habitat are protected.  The best management practices (BMPs) are designed to benefit livestock, people and the environment.

Small Farm Tours—special thanks to our host farms and local experts

  • Don Hruitiford
  • Paul & Debbie Chudek
  • Barbara Daugert
  • Larry Davis- USA Farrier, local

Our spring farm tours allowed landowners to share information, resources and see first hand how implemented BMPs become tools for success.  Our objective is to help farm owners get the most out of their property while raising awareness about protecting environmental resources on and off the farm.

Blaine beef farm tour —Don Hrutiford has worked with the WCD for more than 10 years making changes and improvements every year.  Don’s farm is a great example of how careful and persistent management pays off.  He has transformed saturated fields into productive ground, planted native trees and shrubs along his stream, created heavy use protection and an on farm composting system.    See tour photos

Ferndale beef cattle tour —Second Wind Farm, Paul Chudek.  On June 5th about 20 farmers visited this 38 acre Everson cattle farm for an informative tour led by Paul.  Participants learned first hand about rotational grazing, simple watering systems, and fencing.  See attached Country Living article and photos or visit www.lyndentribune.com

Horse farm Tour—Broken Auger Farm, Barbara Daugert
About 30 horse folks came out to Barbara Daugert’s farm to see first hand how she has created a farm that is safe, healthy and environmentally sound for her and horses.   Farm tour highlights include roof water management, quality grazing practices and smart winter paddocks.
