Envirothon

2007 Envirothon Fact Sheet

What is the Envirothon?

The Envirothon is a problem-solving, natural resource competition for high school students (grades 9 through 12) in the United States and Canada. In the field, teams of students are challenged to use critical thinking skills to answer written questions and conduct hands-on investigation of environmental issues in five categories:

At the regional level in Washington, teams from Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, Snohomish and other northwest counties compete against each other in the Northwest Regional Envirothon. Local conservation districts in these counties host the regional competition on a rotating basis, providing resources and guidance to leaders of each participating high school team. The team that wins at the regional level is eligible to go on to compete at the state level. Winning teams from state competitions may then compete at the national competition held each summer at various sites throughout the country.
